Case Study
The Hydro Majestic Hotel

Solution
200kW Rooftop Solar
Project Summary
Set high above the Megalong Valley, the Hydro Majestic Hotel is one of Australia’s most iconic properties, and now, it’s powered by the sun.
In partnership with Salter Brothers, we’ve completed a 200kW rooftop solar installation at the Blue Mountains landmark. It’s the first solar project in their portfolio and a significant milestone in their commitment to reduce emissions across all sites.
Location: Blue Mountains, NSW
Installation timeframe: 4 weeks
Energy Reduction: 25.28%
Payback Period: 3.9 Years

The site’s complex rooflines and varying orientations added further challenges. Our engineers conducted a detailed structural analysis to maximise solar coverage while ensuring the safety and longevity of the roof. Despite the complexity, installation was completed in just four weeks.
Once operational, the system is expected to significantly reduce the hotel’s reliance on grid energy, lowering carbon emissions and supporting long-term ESG outcomes. Salter Brothers see this as a flagship project, both for its environmental value and the example it sets across their property group.
Here’s what Mei McNamara, ESG Manager at Salter Brothers, had to say about the experience:
“Partnering with Smart Commercial Solar to install our first solar system was an empowering experience. From the initial assessment through to installation, their team provided expert guidance and worked diligently to overcome the challenges of heritage conservation constraints. We sincerely thank them for their dedication and commitment to delivering the project to a high standard.”
We’re proud to help future-proof this historic property and show that heritage and sustainability can move forward together.
