388kWh Rooftop PV
+ 2.4MW Storage
Zenobē and Transgrid joined forces to deliver Australia’s largest electric bus depot. Aligned with their ambitious 2030 zero-emission goals, they introduced a fleet of 40 new electric buses at the Leichhardt Bus Depot as part of the broader electrification project. There was an immediate synergy between Zenobē and Smart Commercial Solar, which resulted in a strong collaboration between their PMs and our technical engineers. Smart Commercial Solar were responsible for the scope of design and engineering of the solar and battery, delivering 368kWh rooftop solar PV and 2.5MW Tesla MegaPack that interfaces with the depot’s electrical infrastructure.
Works were conducted in an operational bus depot, so safety was the number one priority. A large amount of skylight had to be preserved on the roof, this meant the use of edge protection and skylight covers had to be installed during the entire duration of the project to ensure a safe workplace for the installers and workers on site.
This was a truely landmark project in NSW combining solar, storage and ancillary services, Smart Commercial Solar were integral in the electrical design, engineering, and compliance and commissioning of the solar and battery systems.
The lifting of materials on site presented a logistical challenge which required multiple crane lifts. This had to be coordinated with the on site crew and ensure there was no disruptions to the operations of the bus depot.
The commissioning of the Tesla MegaPack presented technical challenges, however Smart Commercial Solar previous experience with Tesla and their technical team meant working through these issues happened quickly and the project was able to be delivered within the strict project timeline.
