72–75% of Site Energy Demand Met (Winter)
$12,000–$15,000 Electricity Bill Savings
55% Scope 2 Emissions Reduction
Alsco Uniforms, a global leader in textile rental solutions, has partnered with Smart Commercial Solar to deliver a 400kW solar energy system at their Salisbury processing facility. Their 5thsolar installation, the project demonstrates Alsco Uniform’s impressive commitment to environmental responsibility and operational efficiency. The Salisbury installation also shows how large, energy-intensive facilities can overcome complex infrastructure challenges to achieve meaningful carbon reductions and long-term cost savings.
THE CHALLENGE
The Salisbury site presented a complex set of challenges. The facility spans two property titles, each with separate energy providers and meter identifiers. A recent transformer upgrade added further complexity, requiring coordination across multiple stakeholders and compliance with infrastructure constraints.
Additionally, the existing switchboard needed upgrading to accommodate the new solar system. Despite these hurdles, Smart Commercial Solar’s engineering and delivery teams navigated the intricacies with precision, ensuring a seamless installation process.

THE SOLUTION
Smart’s team installed two systems — 99 kW and 300 kW — across the Salisbury site, integrating N-type panels and the latest solar technology. The project included:
- Full engineering design and structural analysis
- Switchboard compliance upgrades
- Coordination with multiple energy retailers (Origin and Shell)
- Dynamic system modelling via Power BI
- Smooth handover across sales, delivery, and performance teams
Chief Sales Officer, Jon Vlatko noted:
"We are dealing with good people and the right customer who wants more than just panels on the roof. This has become a partnership to be proud of."

THE OUTCOME
The system is outperforming expectations, currently covering 72–75% of the site’s energy demand—well above the initial estimate of 55–60%. In winter alone, the site has seen savings of $12,000–$15,000 on electricity bills, with further gains anticipated in summer.
The installation is also on track to reduce Alsco’s Scope 2 emissions by 55%, contributing meaningfully to their sustainability goals. It’s a clear example of how sustainability initiatives can deliver both environmental and financial returns.
“Alsco Uniforms will definitely work with Smart Commercial Solar again. The real value add of course, is the technological advancement in terms of the Power BI, the modelling, the analytics. Everything went really smoothly, and they really kept us up to date. We’d definitely recommend it, and I think other businesses should definitely give them a try.”
